An unplanned expat blogger behind ExpatNest

Hi, I'm Lucia
Project manager. Parent. An expat living in Madrid, Spain.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Spain wasn’t in the plans for the long haul. For many expat relocations, it started with a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The early months were demanding — fresh processes, new routines, and new expectations. Daily chores seemed more challenging than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning. Over time, routines took shape. We found locations that fit our needs, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
Why I Built ExpatNest
Most online resources were either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was a genuine, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Spain.
What This Site Is About (And What It Isn't)
This site is:
- Practical experience gained from living in Spain
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever there is a meaningful change
This site isn't:
- A tourism authority resource
- A sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Spain continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, please feel free to get in touch.
Best regards,
Lucia
